As mentioned in the OOC note yesterday, your characters have just been made aware that the CALL Network is now open to a number of people who have not been 'processed' by McAran Industries.

Or their mysterious counterparts, it seems.

What this boils down to is that we've got something of a perpetual Fourth Wall event: posting and play in [community profile] calling_net does not require an application. That means that if you think your character would benefit from X's great character, they can do a thread with you that you can work into your character growth without them having to go through the hoops. That means players who are interested but don't really want a commitment can pop in or out as they like. It means that if you're considering bringing another character to the game, you can try them out on the network, see how it works for you, without going through the hassle. It also means that fully apped characters may be more apt to use the HERO or CAD networks (as well as privacy settings) since there's now no telling who might be reading CALL Network posts. Not to mention meeting in person in the SFC! Or bringing folks back to homeworlds! Etc. etc. etc.

Of course, 'unprocessed' characters (unapped) can app whenever they like. Apps ARE always open. But, we're hoping, this will open up some new avenues for play and create a unique opportunity for interesting interactions. Of course, all players need to abide by the rules, though. And any player who experiences bad behavior should report it as needed to a mod to be handled appropriately. But while we prepare for the negative, we'd like to focus on the positives.

For more specifics, the network faq has been updated, as has the CALL device app page to make clear who has access to what. TL;DR: unapped folks have access to just the CALL Network and basic phone stuff.

I won't beat around the bush: the game has slowed down and we've had some bumps on the road, but I believe in this game and the players, which is why I did some revamping over the weekend.

These changes should be seamless for existing players, if not make things that much easier for them and add a few new things for them to play with. That said, if there ARE any questions, concerns, or serious issues with the changes, I definitely want feedback ASAP.
  • No activity check. As of today, we'll be moving to a check in system with (totally optional) point buy for activity. There's more on the linked page!
  • Plotting has been streamlined. We used to have this big long thing and a whole plotting comm and ultimately, it felt like red tape for the sake of red tape. The NEW plotting information can be found here on the FAQ.
  • The [community profile] calling_net community is now an OPEN community. This means that you can play on the comm without having apped. Which means you can invite friends or play with random characters or whatever! Think of it like a continual Fourth Wall event slash TDM. Why? Because why not? This might open up avenues for folks to move their plots and character development along in interesting ways as well as open the game for people to try.
  • More ReQuests! We should be having some more explorations and other reQuests up soon! ReQuests are going to edge more towards self-guided adventure prompts in the future to help make sure that players can complete them and get their Quest rewards.
  • A New TDM! That'll be going up ASAP.
Obviously, we just had an activity check and I don't want to make anyone feel like that effort was wasted. As such, all passed activity checks for the most recent AC post will be credited with 20 MI Points.

As always, questions, comments, etc. can go here or as a message to this account. Thanks, folks! And stay tuned for more!

Hey guys.

As you might have noticed, no AC check was posted for Sept. This was actually intentional ^_^ Since your mod team is shifting around a few things and wasn't present for part of the month, I figured you guys deserve a break as much as anyone else.

As such, the next AC check will be at the end of OCTOBER. The normal amount of activity will be required as would have been required in Sept, you just have an extra month to get it done. And I'm going to try and make sure there's a few events to help get activity up this month.

Questions, concerns, etc, can be directed here or at the mod account!

Hey folks! Just putting this up to let you all know that I'm officially back on the job (it has been the case for a little longer but I realized I hadn't actually officially announced I was back) and there's going to be a couple of small changes:

  1. There's only going to be ONE regular news broadcast a month. This post will have something for every section of the city. This post will go up on the 15th of the month, every month.
  2. There will be a couple smaller newscasts that will go up randomly throughout the month. These will only address one or two sections of the city.
  3. A few new apps will be coming to your CALL devices. These will be focused on bringing in more use of homeworld aspects as well as the mentor and student concepts for those interested in playing with those concepts a little more.

Further, I'd like to take this post as an opportunity to ask what you guys would like to see more of, what you feel the game is lacking, etc. Feedback is definitely something I take seriously and I'd love to add more of what you want and cut out things you're not as interested in to give folks a better focused game.

So here's the deal guys: this game PRETTY much has one mod. And said mod is going on a much needed vacation at the end of the month. So as of today after I get the broadcast up, applications are CLOSED and consider me off duty but on call until Sept 6th.

So if there's a situation, absolutely ping the plurk account or send a message to this journal. ABSOLUTELY. But other mod work is going to be put down while I'm at the beach. I'm probably still going to play as a PLAYER but everything but emergency mod duties are being put down for the moment.

But expect some spiffy new stuff once I get back since I'm working on a few things ^_^

Questions, comments, concerns, etc, leave 'em here and I'll address as I can.

Feedback!

Hey folks! We just recently got a decent influx of people, so I thought it might be time for a feedback post. Crit, comments, suggestions, or even just stuff you'd really like to see: plop it in here and we'll see what we can do about it. Be as vague or specific as you'd like.

For those who think better with forms...

Hey folks! You know me: there's always something new and interesting to add to the FAQs. Today's updates have to do with WSFC Broadcasts and Timeskipping your character.

Since we've got a few new people, I thought it might be time to go over some of the basics on the WSFC Broadcasts, how they can be used, and what they can do for you. This might be news for even some of the older folks, so take a look.

Over on the regular FAQ, there's now a section on Timeskipping your character, should you want to move ahead in your canon for whatever reason without playing out the inbetween. So for anyone who was interested in doing that or wondering how it works, *Will Smith arms*

Smaller note: there's now a form for dropping a character over on the Cast List, should you need to do so.

As always, questions, concerns, issues, recipes for especially good dessert: right here and I'll get to it ASAP!

So for those who might be interested, we actually have a listing of all of the SFC-specific apps available on your CALL device here now, as well as a place where you folks can either IC build them OR simply request them from the software folks at McAran (IC or OOC). If you're looking to find the page otherwise, it's linked on the NETWORK FAQ page.

As per usual, questions/comments, etc. can go here!

So... guess who doesn't have power back home?

Which means that while I'm going to try and get a couple things done while I'm here at work, please be aware that it may take a little more time to get to questions, etc. but that I'm on it and WILL get to it. I happen to work at a place with a generator and internet so the latest it should be is Monday, but I've still got my phone and hopefully it'll be fixed soon.

So given that we're starting to grow a little, I thought it might be nice to put up a wishlist/check in list for folks to put down characters they'd love to join them in the game. That way I can list those folks on ads in the future ^_^

As noted, it IS both a wish list for characters you TOTALLY WANT and a 'please check in with me' list for characters that may throw you for a loop or who you'd just REALLY like to talk to that person considering how close they are to yours. This list changes nothing in the app process but I thought it might help everyone be on the same page and let potential players know where you're at about things and what you're interested in!

Just a little note that new locations have been added to each section of the City, one apiece.

If anyone has any questions or any requests for specific kinds of locations that haven't been represented, feel free to leave the comments here!

Hey folks. Going to keep this short if I can:

Missions have been renamed to ReQuests in order to make clear to both players and characters the voluntary nature of these adventures. The tags have been changed appropriately as well.

Further, for anyone who might want a breakdown on what to expect, the SFC FAQ has been updated with a section on ReQuests accordingly.

As always, any questions/concerns/etc. can be taken here, on plurk, or on the appropriate FAQ.

Missions!

[personal profile] calling_mods
Hey folks. Thank you all for participating in the survey; your voices have been heard. Which, of course, is why your characters all have a brand new app on their CALL devices. The wonders of McAran Industries, everyone.

What this is starting is what we'll be calling Missions: things your character can do to help expand, explore, shape, and define things in the SFC. We'll be starting with a few islands, as the gentleman from the Mapmaker's Guild explained. They've even been so good as to charter interested parties the necessary transportation.

Missions have no time limit and they're not just going to be limited to the islands; think of them like side quests. In some cases, multiple groups/people can do them and in other cases, it'll be one time use. The mission briefing will make that clear, such as it did in this case: they're looking for as much information as possible, so feel free to double up if you really want to! As for missions in general, they've got their own tag, so if you're ever looking for something that your character can go and do, feel free to check out the missions tag and see what's left open.

Feel free to chat over the net, work out teams, decide you want nothing to do with it, or otherwise interact with Missions however you please, though the actual mission work should be on the linked posts to keep everything neat and tidy.

ETA: An OOC Plotting Post for mission planning, as per Dave-mun's suggestion!

As always, questions, comments, concerns, etc. can be left here or asked on Plurk.

See, just like we said ^_^.

Just updated the SFC FAQ with the new layout, a few clarifications, and a bit of tweaking as needed.

And as always, if you have any other questions, please feel free to drop them our way!

Hey folks!

For those of you who may have had questions (or who didn't even realize they had some questions but who wanted to know these things), we've updated the FAQ to add plenty of new information and what we hope will be an easier to navigate interface.

Expect the SFC FAQ to get a similar facelift in the future!

Of course, if you guys have questions, concerns, or just want to check in, feel free to add them there on the FAQ, pop us a PM, or ping us on Plurk.

Sorry to flood the OOC comm today but we've just added one more little feature.

For new arrivals to the SFC, there is now a helpful front desk attendant for any IC questions your character might have about where they are and what the heck they're holding.

You are absolutely welcome to handwave this kind of discussion, but if there are specific questions that you'd like to ask, feel free to talk to her!

So, for those watching, you might have noticed a broadcast going up today on [community profile] calling_net. This broadcast is how we'll be communicating plot starters, mod-run plots, events, and other goodies for your character to encounter on any given day. The broadcasts are going to run in roughly two week chunks, though there may be 'emergency' broadcasts for certain plots, and whether your character is in the SFC or not at the time, the podcast will be added to their CALL Device at that time.

The radio host, the ever enigmatic [ static ], is happy to take viewer questions, read advertisements on the air, and otherwise interact with UCs and NCs as needed, so feel free to 'call' in if you have questions about a news story or need an address for a place mentioned on the 'cast.

And of course, questions, comments, etc. can go here or over at the FAQ. Or prod on [plurk.com profile] the_calling_rp if you like. We're small so no need to be formal ^_^
